Biography
Dr. Yibin Ying graduated from Jiangsu University with a B.S. degree in 1984, Zhejiang Agricultural University with an M.S. in 1989, and Northeast Agricultural University with his Ph.D. in 1999. All three degrees are in engineering. His Ph.D. advisor is Yiyuan Jiang, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. Dr. Ying has ever served as Visiting Professor or Visiting Scientist at University of Arkansas, University of Maryland, and Instrumentation and Sensing Laboratory of United States Department of Agriculture. After he got his lecturer position in Zhejiang University in March, 1991, he was given an accelerated promotion to an associate professor and a full professor in 1994 and 1998 respectively. Now, he is the Chang-Jiang Scholar, the winner of National Natural Science Funds for Distinguished Young Scholars, National Outstanding Professor (2008), and National Model Teacher (2009). Dr. Ying’s research interests and activities focus on the area of sensing technology and equipment for quality and safety of agro-produce/food. He founded the first ‘Biosystems Engineering’ program for undergraduate students inChina. He supervised 35 Ph.D. students (1 from aboard) and 23 master students. One Ph.D. student won National 100 Most Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award in 2009 and three were nominated as candidates for this award in 2008, 2010, and 2011. Since 1990, he has served as PI of more than 40 research projects, in which the ‘Technology and Equipment for Real Time Inspecting and Grading Fruits based on Computer Vision’ project won the second prize of National Award for Technological Invention in 2008. He has been authorized 45 items of patents and 17 items of registered software. He has published more than 100 papers cited by SCI as the first or corresponding author, and 1 book with the title of ‘Nondestructive Technology for detecting the Quality of Agro-produce’. Meanwhile, Dr. Ying is vice president of the Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineers, vice president of the Chinese Society of Agricultural Machinery, president of Zhejiang Provincial Society of Agricultural Engineers, councilor of Agricultural Engineering Discipline in the Academic Degrees Committee under the State Council. And he is serving as an associate editor of 3 journals in Agriculture Engineering area-- 《Transactions of the ASABE》, 《Applied Engineering in Agriculture》and 《Biological Engineering Transactions》, the vice chairman of 《International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering》, and the editorial board member of other 6 journals-- 《Journal on Postharvest Technology and Innovation》,《Journal of Food Measurement and Characterization》,《Spectroscopy and Spectral Analysis》 and 《Transactions of the Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering》, 《Transactions of the Chinese Society for Agricultural Machinery》, and 《Acta Agriculturae Zhejiangensis》. In additional, Dr. Ying has won the first prize of National Teaching Achievement Award in 2009 and 2014, the Model Worker of Zhejiang Province in 2009, Outstanding Returned Oversea Scholar of Zhejiang Province in 2008, the Qiushi Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University in 2007, the National Outstanding Agricultural Engineer Award of CSAE in 2005, the National New Century Excellent Talents in University in 2004.
