The monitoring and testing plan proposes to create a comprehensive data set that stretches across geographies, seasons and links in the supply chain. Given public access and government support, the data will become a valuable resource, benefiting the larger research and industry community. Paired with similar efforts across the globe, the data will also inform global trends and identify regional differences in the spread of poultry-related foodborne pathogens.
The project also aims to create a dynamic and nearly real-time risk assessment model with a user-friendly dashboard to inform stakeholders along the supply chain. Such a dashboard could curtail the spread of contaminated product, develop better practices, incentivize good behavior and reduce economic losses. Finally, the tested methodologies and project findings have the potential to form a template for use with other products in the future, making consumers and families safer.
