Our team attended The 2018 ASABE Annual International Meeting

Organized by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), an educational and scientific organization dedicated to the advancement of engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems, the 2018 ASABE Annual International Meeting was held during Sunday, July 29-Wednesday, August 01 in Detroit, Michigan. There were 1682 registrants from 31 countries, of which there were 575 graduate students and 212 undergraduate students. The meeting aimed to present a forum to expand awareness of current industry trends, promote and acknowledge innovations in design and technology, and provide opportunities for professional development – all with a focus on the economic, political and societal impacts facing the industry. The highlights of the meeting included networking opportunities, more than 1,000 technical and poster presentations, professional development sessions, specialty sessions which include invited speakers, panel discussions and round-table discussions, technical and cultural tours, professional development hours/credits, and a career fair. Our team members included Dr. Yanbin Li, PhD student Xinge Xi and masters student America Sotero from University of Arkansas, and Dr. Yingchun Fu, PhD student Yafang Shen from Zhejiang University attended this meeting.

During technical sessions, America Sotero gave her oral presentation A portable impedance aptasensing system for rapid detection of Salmonella Typhimurium in poultry products at 3:05 pm, Monday, July 30. Xinge Xi gave her oral presentation Surface imprinted polydopamine based magnetic separation and quantum dots based fluorescent biosensor for detection of foodborne pathogenic bacteria at 3:20 pm, Monday, July 30. Yafang Shen gave her oral presentation A nanomaterials-based biosensor for rapid detection of enrofloxacin in chicken products at 7:35 am, Wednesday, August 1. Dr. Yingchun Fu gave his oral presentation A novel electrochemical biosensor based on magnetic-separation/concentration-signal-amplification at 7:50 am, Wednesday, August 1.

During AOCABFE & NERCITA China Exchange Forum (invited speakers), Dr. Yanbin Li gave a presentation International collaboration for improving food safety of poultry supply chains in China at 4:30 pm, Tuesday, July 31.

During Association of Overseas Chinese Agricultural, Biological, and Food Engineers (AOCABFE) Annual Business Meeting started from 5:00 pm, Tuesday, July 31, Dr. Yanbin Li from our group was awarded with Outstanding Service Award to recognize his exceptional services that contribute to, and enhance the mission of the AOC. PhD student Yafang Shen won the second place in the AOC student paper competition.

During the ITSC-230 Biosensors committee meeting at 6:00 am, Wednesday August 1, our team members Dr. Yingchun Fu, Xinge Xi and America Sotero attended the meeting as committee members, where Dr. Yingchun Fu was elected as secretary of the ITSC-230 Biosensors Committee.
