On November 19, the Forum on Food Safety in Poultry Supply Chain & Kickoff Meeting of the Project on Poultry Excellence in China (Phase II), organized by the research group of Prof. Jianhan Lin from College of Information and Electrical Engineering at China Agricultural University, was successfully held in their new library, Beijing, China. Prof. Maohua Wang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Prof. Junshi Chen, Academician of CAE, Prof. Xiwen Luo, Academician of CAE, Prof. Huanchun Chen, Academician of CAE, Dr. Ying Chen, Vice Dean of Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, Dr. Xiumei Liu, Scientific Advisor of China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, and Dr. Fengqin Li, Director of the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, were invited to serve on the advisory committee. Prof. Yuanshi Gong, Vice President of China Agricultural University, also attended the meeting.
On behalf of China Agricultural University, Vice President Yuanshi Gong welcomed the leaders, experts and colleagues to the meeting, and stated that the university would provide full support for the project. Mr. Will Watts, Senior Director of Wal-Mart Food Safety Collaboration Center and Prof. Ed Pohl, Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Arkansas, delivered speeches. Participants included professors from University of Arkansas, including Dr. Yanbin Li, Distinguished Professor of the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Dr. Michael Kidd, Professor of the Department of Poultry Science, Dr. John Kent, Director of Supply Chain Management Center, Dr. Rainwater, Associate Professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering, Dr. Kathryn Carlisle, Senior Managing Director of Blockchain Center of Excellence; professors from South China Agricultural University, including Vice President Ming Liao, Dr. Baichen Jiang, Professor of the College of Economics and Management,Dr. Yuxing Han, Professor of the College of Information and Electronics, and Dr. Jianmin Zhang, Associate Professor of the College of Animal Medicine; professors from Zhejiang University, including Dr. Jianping Wang and Dr. Yingchun Fu, professors of the College of Biosystems Engineering and Food Science; and scientists from Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, including Vice President Hua Yang and Director Mingrong Qian; representatives of industries, including Dr. Xibin Zhang, New Hope Liuhe Co., Ltd. and Mr. Zhu, president of Zhuhai Yuhong Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd.; and professors from China Agricultural University, including Dr. Zhichao Zhang, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office, Dr. Fa Jing, Party Secretary, and Prof. Man Zhang, Dean, Dr. Jianhan Lin, Professor, and Dr. Yuanjie Liu, Associate Professor of the College of Information and Electrical Engineering, as well as over twenty postdoctoral research associates and graduate students from those universities and research institute.
The project on Poultry Excellence in China aims to apply biosensor technology and risk assessment to the pathogens and antibiotics monitoring to create a safe supply chain for poultry products. During the meeting, Prof. Yanbin Li briefed the objectives and approaches of the project phase II, and Prof. Ming Liao reported the achievements of Phase I and the plan of Phase II from the Chinese side, and five professors from the University of Arkansas introduced their research plan from the US side, respectively.
The advisory committee confirmed the results of Phase I of the project, and pointed out the remaining problems, and gave suggestions for Phase II of the project. After the meeting, the project team revised the phase II research plan based on the suggestions of the advisory committee.
